Built on a modular architecture, Mantle combines an optimistic rollup protocol with an innovative data availability solution, inheriting security from Ethereum while providing more accessible data availability. Positioned as an L2 solution, Mantle Network reduces gas fees and enhances throughput compared to Ethereum. The platform embraces common developer infrastructure, offering compatibility with existing tools and languages. Its modular design includes a centralized sequencer, fraud proofs, and a unique data availability approach powered by EigenLayer's EigenDA technology, promoting cost savings and scalability in comparison to traditional L1 solutions.
On 1/17/24, they announced Mantle Network v2 Testnet, Sepolia. The core remains unchanged, but Mantle Network v2 introduces new features, including seamless compatibility with OP Stack and the Bedrock upgrade, enhancing interoperability in the OP Stack ecosystem. A notable upgrade involves the migration of native tokens in L2, aligning with Ethereum's native design and supporting updates like EIP-1559-type transactions. The introduction of Meta Transactions facilitates fee payment on behalf of users, offering a flexible and seamless transaction experience.
As of December 31, 2023, Mantle ecosystem consists of a 144 projects deployed to mainnet, and has successfully executed over 36.7M transactions across 550k addresses.
While Mantle has made meaningful progress since itโs launch last summer as demonstrated by its ~$150M TVL, itโs currently missing many of the key components that would make it attractive for Balancer to prioritize:
Continue to monitor progress of Mantle but hold off for now. The BD team is also engaged with Mantle about an mETH strategy independent of a deployment on Mantle. There is currently 307k mETH supply on mainnet.
