ConsenSys launched Linea on mainnet in July 2023, formerly known as ConsenSys zkEVM, as an Layer 2 (L2) solution. Linea invites developers, users, and protocols to contribute to scaling Ethereum by providing a platform for building decentralized applications (dapps). With a developer-centric approach, Linea offers a seamless experience by integrating with popular tools like MetaMask and Truffle. It combines zero-knowledge proofs with full Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) equivalence, enabling scalable dapp creation or migration without code changes. Linea's innovative prover design ensures faster transaction speeds and reduced gas costs while maintaining security.
As of January 11, 2024, the Linea ecosystem consists of a 299 dapps, and has successfully executed over 36.5M transactions, saving over $382M in gas fees.
While Linea has made meaningful technical progress since it’s launch last summer, it’s currently missing many of the key components that would make it attractive for Balancer:
⁃ Linea is close with major MMs and liquidity providers that can help to bootstrap ⁃ Linea does plan to airdrop its token when it “decentralizes” ⁃ Linea has mentioned working closely with metamask to incorporate Balancer and Aura via their ‘portfolio and snap’ features coming up
⁃ Linea is nearing executing of the sDAI Gnosis and stETH Blast play, leading to more high yielding opportunities for users.
Continue to monitor progress of Linea but hold off for now.
